Sevilla coach Jose Luis Mendilibar was delighted with the spirit shown after their 2-2 draw at Europa League opponents Manchester United.
The quarterfinal tie is now in the balance with the return-leg staged in Spain.
Mendilibar said, "We were playing better in the second half, we'd managed to control them a bit more, but if you'd told us, at 2-0 in the first half, that we'd equalise but it's as we said at half-time: with one goal we get back in the tie and we were strong enough to keep going and to take our chances.
"The idea is always to go forward but in the first half we couldn't, because they hurt us with their speed and it took us half an hour to settle. From there, we were better, we were braver and stood up to them. We produced a good second half which gave us the chance to have even won the game.
"In this competition, it's very difficult for other teams to have the soul of Sevilla. Even United it's 2-0 but on making it 2-1, they were scared of us. It's the history of Sevilla in this competition which makes [the club] even bigger."
