
Kota Kinabalu: The prosecution has closed its case against a silat instructor accused of committing physical sexual offences against his female student.
Sessions Court Judge Marlina Ibrahim fixed Oct 30 for clarification following the close of the prosecution’s case against Yuslainie Ag Yusuf, 29.
Yuslainie maintained his plea of not guilty to the charge of hugging the 15-year-old girl as well as caressing her breasts on Aug 26, 2023, in Putatan.
The accused was charged under Section 14 (a) of the Sexual Offences against Children Act 2017 read with Section 16(1) of the same Act.
Section 14(a) of the Act carries a jail term of up to 20 years and liability of a fine on conviction, while Section 16(1) of the same Act, provides for a jail term of up to five years and whipping of not less than two strokes of the cane if convicted.
Two witnesses were called to testify at the prosecution stage.
The accused was represented by counsel Nigel Neong Kaning.
Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) DK Afiqah Alya PG Johari appeared for the prosecution.
