KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 26 — The Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) and the National Sports Council (NSC) have completed the Safe Sport Code to be implemented by all national sports associations (NSAs) by December.

Its caretaker minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu said the code, which includes a code of conduct, will be used to handle complaints about sexual harassment at all levels, including sports training centres, before being replaced by the Safe Sports Act.

“I had promised (to continue) the Safe Sport Act (plan) but, because I believe it will take a long time, we decided to introduce this code at all levels of sports.

“This is to protect our athletes if they are sexually or mentally harassed and it ruins their lives for a long time,” he told reporters after launching the Aesthetic Group Gymnastics (AGG) World Cup 2022 here today.

Previously, Ahmad Faizal was reported to have said that his ministry was formulating the Safe Sport Act draft, which is expected to be ready in December.

Elaborating, he said the matter, however, stalled following the dissolution of Parliament by caretaker Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob on October 10.

Meanwhile, on Aesthetic Gymnastics, he said it was among the sports that needed to be highlighted as it had the potential to give great returns to the national economy.

“For the AGG alone, the economic impact comes to around RM20 million, we also hope that the international media will be able to provide coverage (of the sport) as that will help promote the country and attract foreign tourists,” he said. — Bernama
