Singaporeans often love to come and visit Malaysia to take advantage of the cheaper food, groceries and fuel prices.
Although they are well within their rights to indulge in the cheaper alternatives we have to offer, this does not apply to fuel, as RON95 petrol is a controlled item as there is a high subsidy for it specially for locals.
It is in fact, against the law to sell RON95 to foreigners who should instead pump up their cars with RON97 fuel instead.
However, this hasn’t seemed to stop Singaporeans who take advantage of the lack of enforcement by pumping RON95 into their foreign cars.
Recently, in a post which has gone viral, a netizen took to Twitter to share a picture of a Singaporean man driving a car which has a Singaporean number plate pumping RON 95 petrol.
According to the post, when confronted by the user, the Singaporean man then acted defensively and asked the user if he was a worker at the petrol station.
The incident happened at a petrol station somewhere in Johor Bahru.
Where is the enforcement?
Although it is against the law to sell RON 95 to foreign number plated cars, it seems that there is a severe lack of enforcement when it comes to it.
Netizens took to the post to urge the police to look into the matter and ask operators of petrol stations to be stricter in terms of its enforcement.
“Ensure that the petrol station is fined and gets their licence is revoked if it happens again. This should serve as a reminder to other petrol stations.”
“This is considered stealing from the rights of Malaysians,” said another user who tagged the accounts of the police, several ministries and the immigration department.
Meanwhile, other users took to the comments section to condemn the behaviour of Singaporeans for always taking advantage of Malaysia by stealing our rights away.
We hope that this serves as a reminder to all petrol stations to be stricter on the enforcement of this law.
