Sg Dua water treatment plant operating at nearly full capacity: PBAPP

GEORGE TOWN – The Sg Dua water treatment plant in Butterworth is currently operating at 99% capacity since its phased reopening on Wednesday noon.

In an update at 8am today, the Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) said water pressure and supply are back to normal in the Timur Laut district, Seberang Prai Utara, Seberang Prai Tengah and Seberang Prai Selatan, except Mukim 5.

Water supply is also restored at selected areas in the Barat Daya district, including Gelugor, Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah, Batu Uban, Jalan Sg Dua, Taman Pekaka, Jalan Yeap Chor Ee, Bukit Gelugor, Bukit Gambir and Balik Pulau (Sg Pinang, Sg Rusa, Air Putih, Titi Teras and Jalan Baru).

Yesterday, PBAPP CEO Datuk Jaseni Maidinsa said the earlier water supply situation was unstable owing to several factors, including the weather and the ability of Kedah water authorities to resume normal supply.

The state’s water supply was hit by an inflow of muddied waters, which clogged the treatment system yesterday following the tragic flooding upstream of Gunung Inas forest reserve in Baling, Kedah last Monday.

PBAPP’s updates will be available on its official Facebook account. – The Vibes, July 8, 2022
