A Singapore-based dark web intelligence agency, Stealth Mole’s Fusion Intelligence Center took to their X page to allege that irresponsible parties are selling the data of 17 million identity cards belonging to Malaysians, on the dark web.

They wrote, “It is claimed that data of 17 million Malaysian citizen’s MyKAD has been leaked and is being sold on the dark web.”

“As proof, they have publicly shared samples of Malaysian ID cards on the dark web. This massive data breach raises concerns as it could lead to serious crimes like identity theft and financial fraud.”

In their post, they also shared images of the samples mentioned, which show ICs belonging to Malaysians from Selangor, Sabah, Sarawak and more, that were shared by the irresponsible parties.

This has led some to urge the Malaysian government to investigate this claim before anything worse happens, while others pointed out that they were not surprised as scammers have called them while knowing their IC numbers.

“National Registration Department (JPN) and Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), please investigate this.”
