Kota Kinabalu: Warisan President Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal should not have raised in the Dewan Rakyat an issue involving the Sabah Constitution related to the legitimacy of Datuk Seri Hajiji Haji Noor as Sabah Chief Minister.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah, Sarawak Affairs and Special Tasks) Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said this is because the Parliament is not a suitable forum for Shafie to bring up the issue.

“First, I find it a bit strange that Shafie raised the issue (to question the legitimacy of Hajiji as the Chief Minister) only now and not during the (CM) appointment in 2020. I wonder why it has become an issue nowadays.

“Second, I see that the Semporna MP’s action to raise the issue in the recent Parliament sitting is improper because the issue is related to the State Constitution which he (Shafie) mentioned Article 6(7) (of the State Constitution),” he said.

Armizan, who is also Papar MP, was commenting on Shafie raising the issue in the Parliament recently which went viral on Tik Tok.

“If necessary, the issue should be taken to the national judiciary system rather than debating it in the Parliament.

“The most important provision of the law is the State Constitution. We need to respect the State’s rights through the provisions of the law, which is the Sabah State Constitution itself,” Armizan said.
