The Khanna police have arrested parents of fugitive Shaganpreet Singh, former manager of slain Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, who along with other suspects were wanted in an extortion case registered after a firing incident at Prem Vaishno Dhaba near Lalheri Chowk on May 1.
The suspects, identified as Saudagar Singh and Daljit Kaur, were arrested from their residence in Fatehgarh Sahib district on Thursday evening.
The police said they were wanted for allegedly conspiring to commit the crime and facilitating the shooters for the same.
The police have also initiated a process for bringing back those suspects who were hiding in foreign countries under the guise of visitors.
DSP Mohit Kumar Singla said Saudagar and Daljit Kaur, father and mother of Shaganpreet, were arrested in connection with an extortion case registered following the firing at Prem Vaishno Dhaba on May 1.
They were also booked in similar cases registered at the Payal and Doraha police stations, he said, adding that they had been sent to judicial remand.
Two motorcyclists, with their faces covered, fired at closed shutters of the dhaba, owners of which had earlier received an extortion call from handlers of an extortion gang, led by elusive Shaganpreet.
Shaganpreet is believed to be handling the illicit activities from Australia.
Dhaba owners were warned to either pay Rs 50 lakh as extortion or face consequences.
Senior functionaries, supervised by Khanna SSP Darpan Ahluwalia, had launched a probe during which Saudagar Singh and Daljit Kaur were identified as co-accused.
Some of the suspects, including Shaganpreet, are yet to be arrested, said Singla.
