PUTATAN: The people have been urged to continue serving as the “eyes and ears” of the State Government in realising the goals of governance and ensuring socio-economic balance across Sabah.
Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Ir Shahelmey Yahya said a holistic partnership between grassroots communities and the government was vital, particularly in the ongoing implementation of the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) development plan.
“Whatever issues arise in your respective areas, I encourage the community to stay in close communication with agencies such as UPPM, JPKK, JKDM and others.

Shahelmey, who is also the Tanjung Keramat Assemblyman, was speaking at the launch of the Semangat Madani Tanjung Keramat programme held at Dewan Serbaguna Muhibbah in Taman Jumbo, here, Saturday.
Earlier, the community-focused programme saw the participation of over 100 residents from various age groups who took part in a range of activities.
Among the highlights were a neighbourhood gotong-royong (communal clean-up) and a colouring competition for children in the area.
Commenting on the event, Shahelmey said the active involvement of the local community reflected growing awareness of the importance of maintaining cleanliness and safety in their surroundings.
“With initiatives like this, participants not only strengthen community bonds but also build greater awareness about keeping the environment clean, safe and harmonious.
“This aligns well with the State Government’s call for unity among all levels of society in order to foster more resilient and competitive communities in the future,” he added.
