Shahidan slams Adam Adli’s ‘baseless’ corruption claims

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysian Athletics Federation president Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim has slammed Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Adam Adli Abdul Halim over his insinuations of corruption within the sporting associations.

In a statement, the Arau MP called out Adam for being someone that is new in the sporting fraternity and threatened further action if the deputy minister fails to provide any proof backing up his comments.

“Don’t try to be a champion by throwing statements that are non-factual and have no basis.

“Please get proper information on how sports bodies are managed by those who are chosen to do so,” he said.

Shahidan, who is also Malaysia Swimming president, added that Adam should be defending national sporting associations and not tarnish them by spewing negative comments.

“It is unhealthy and not appropriate for the deputy youth and sports minister to be saying.

“Please prove which of the sporting associations are involved with corruption.

“Otherwise, we will take action against these baseless claims,” he said.

Previously, Adam said the consequence of corruption has indirectly affected the nation’s capability to bring home gold medals at international championships.

Malaysian Cricket Association had said it was the first sporting organisation to sign a letter of undertaking with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission. – The Vibes, December 14, 2022.
