KUALA LUMPUR – Deputy president of the Football Association of Selangor (FAS) and chairman of the club’s technical committee, Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar, has hinted that he may soon step down from his role with the club.

The move comes as he intends to focus fully on the corporate world following his appointment as the new Chief Executive Officer of Destini Bhd, effective December 4.

“I feel that perhaps the time has come for me to leave Selangor FC, and I am giving this matter serious thought. Perhaps there are others who can bring fresh ideas and added value to the club,” Shahril told Scoop when contacted.

“I have been assisting the team for over six years, so it may be beneficial to give someone else the opportunity to support the CEO,” he added.

Shahril is no stranger to the corporate world, having built an extensive reputation over the years.

His career includes senior roles at notable companies such as Maybank, PwC Malaysia, British American Tobacco (M) Bhd, Malaysia Airlines, RapidKL, and the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD).

He also served as Group Managing Director at Prasarana Malaysia Bhd before being appointed CEO of Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp).

Currently, Shahril chairs West River Berhad, EVD Berhad, Inspace Creation Berhad, and UTM Holdings Sdn Bhd, in addition to holding several directorships in private companies.

Despite his corporate commitments, his passion for football means he will continue to contribute to FAS to ensure the sport continues to develop in the state.

“FAS is not overly demanding, as my roles are Deputy President and Treasurer, so I feel I can remain in those positions,” he said. - December 7, 2025
