Former Senior Political Secretary to the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, expressed determination to prove his innocence and urged continued support as he navigates ongoing legal proceedings.

Meeting the media outside the Sessions Court on 4th of December, Shamsul Iskandar emphasized that he will adhere strictly to the legal process. He acknowledged the support of colleagues, friends, and legal counsel, describing their presence as a source of strength during the proceedings.

He affirmed his commitment to transparency and full cooperation, stating that he had taken a proactive stance from the outset to assist investigators and intends to continue defending himself through proper legal channels. “I will do my best to prove the truth and follow the court process. From the beginning, I have cooperated fully, and God willing, my name will be cleared,” he said.

His lawyer, Datuk Amer Hamzah Arshad, confirmed that the court proceedings were progressing according to established protocols, including setting a new mention date in January for the prosecution to submit relevant documents. Amer reiterated that Shamsul Iskandar consistently maintained his innocence and had taken formal steps to protect his reputation, including filing a police report while campaigning in Sabah.

The 51-year-old former Hang Tuah Jaya Member of Parliament pleaded not guilty to four charges linked to alleged corruption involving businessman Albert Tei Jiann Cheing. The charges include one count of agreeing to accept a bribe of RM100,000 and three counts of obtaining money and goods, including furniture and electrical items totaling RM76,829.03, between November 2023 and March 2024.

The prosecution alleges that Shamsul Iskandar, as an agent of the Malaysian government, accepted these bribes to facilitate approvals for mineral exploration licenses in Sabah. The offences reportedly occurred at multiple locations, including a car park, a hotel on Jalan Sultan Hishamuddin, Jalan Medang Serai in Bukit Bandaraya, and Precinct 14 in Putrajaya.

The charges were framed under Section 17(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, with penalties provided under Section 24(1) of the same legislation.

Amer stressed that the legal process will allow Shamsul Iskandar to present his defense fully, assuring the public that the case will proceed in an orderly and fair manner. The Sessions Court has scheduled the next mention of the case in January, as the former senior aide prepares to continue his legal battle to restore his name.
