‘She was still my wife’ - says husband of fatal stabbing victim

THE husband of the woman who was stabbed to death in Air Itam on Thursday has denied rumours that they were separated.

Mohamad Shazwan Hafizi Badrul Kamal, in his 30s, said rumours that Siti Zulaila Zulkifli, 30, was a widow were not true and that she was his wife.

"She is my wife and I am her legitimate husband.

"It saddens me when people falsely accuse her of being a widow. All rumours that she is a widow are false," he said last night after the burial of his wife and father-in-law, Zulkifli Ibrahim, 62, at the Tanah Perkuburan Islam Kariah in Tanjung Tokong, George Town.

He said it was already painful that he lost his wife in such tragic circumstances and the rumours only made the pain more burdensome for him and the family.

"I hope legal action will be taken against the perpetrator for what he did to my wife and father-in-law," he added.

The deceased were buried after the post-mortem last night. The bodies were taken to Masjid Tuan Guru before being buried at Tanah Perkuburan Islam Kariah Tanjung Tokong.

Both father and daughter were buried in one grave.

Around 300 people, including family members and friends, were present to perform prayers.

In Thursday's incident, the suspect who was allegedly rejected by the mother of three, stabbed her and her father to death in an apartment block in Lengkok Angsana, Ayer Itam in George Town.

The incident occurred at 1.15 pm when the 30-year-old victim returned from work in front of the ground-floor lift.

It is learnt that the father was also at the scene and had tried to stop the 32-year-old suspect.

After stabbing the father and daughter, the suspect slit his throat and stabbed himself several times.

He was later taken to the Penang Hospital and is now under a seven-day remand till Nov 14. - November 9, 2024
