SHELL Continues To Upskill Sabahan Talents Through Certified Welding Programme

Kota Kinabalu: A total of 15 Sabahans were awarded certificates for successfully completing Projek LINK (Latihan Industri Kimpalan), which is a Shell-certified welding programme at Kolej Vokasional Likas (KV Likas), in a graduation ceremony held at Hilton Hotel Kota Kinabalu, today.

Projek LINK is a collaborative effort between Sabah Shell Petroleum Company Limited (SSPC) and KV Likas, and in attendance were Wong Kim Mun, General Manager, SSPC, and Encik Yahaya bin Ismail, newly appointed director at KV Likas.

AdvertisementSSPC has contributed over RM570,000 to this programme since 2019. Projek LINK has produced 77 graduates, who are employed not just locally, but internationally as well.

These graduates are fully versed in welding to international standards like ASME IX and AWS, up to the highest complexity of both 6G and 6GR. SSPC is committed to produce a skilled workforce of qualified and competent welders for heavy industries such as oil and gas, shipping, construction and energy in Sabah through this initiative.

The two recipients showed very commendable performance throughout the year, both being hardworking and always willing to put in extra effort into completing their course. Both are already employed within the local Oil & Gas industry.

Encik Yahaya bin Ismail remarked that while he is new on seat, he is impressed with the quality of skills obtained by the Projek LINK students.

Projek LINK is aimed at helping students who face financial and academic challenges to upskill themselves, while addressing the demand for skilled and trained workers in the oil and gas industry.

Besides Sabah, Projek LINK is also run in Miri and Bintulu, Sarawak. Shell Malaysia collaborates with both Kolej Vokasional Miri (KV Miri) and Kolej Vokasional Bintulu (KV Bintulu) respectively to run the programme for the youth there.

Also present at the event were Nor Aliza Binti Mohd Ridwan, Head of Assistant Directors of Industrial Ties, Cooperation and Industrial Relations Unit, Technical and Vocational Training Education Division; Nurul Ashiqin Binti Abdul Razak, Assistant Director from the same unit; and Sulaiman Bin Achmad, Senior Deputy Director, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Unit, Learning Sector, Department Of Education Sabah.
