A joint delegation of Shiromani Akali Dal, Chandigarh, and the Student Organisation of India (SOI) met the Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh Gulab Chand Kataria and raised several public issues concerning religious institutions of Chandigarh, local residents and students of Panjab University, Chandigarh. The delegation was led by Charanjit Singh Villy, state president, SAD, Chandigarh.

During the meeting, Villy submitted a memorandum to the Administrator, highlighting various pressing concerns affecting the people of Chandigarh. One of the major issues raised was gurdwaras and temples in Chandigarh receiving violation notices from the Administration.

The party requested the Administrator to intervene in the matter and direct the Administration to regularise all religious places in Chandigarh as a one-time measure, keeping in view the sentiments of the people. Villy also demanded that at least two seats of nominated councillors to be reserved for the Sikh community in the MC. He also demanded enhancement of pension for senior citizens and widows in Chandigarh.
