In a press conference held on September 17, 2024, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain did not mince his words when addressing the ongoing investigation into Global Ikhwan Service and Business Holding (GISBH). When asked to comment on the matter, Mohd Shuhaily simply said that the findings of the investigation were "disgusting," reflecting his strong disapproval of the case's developments.
Speaking to Berita Harian, the seasoned police official expressed his revulsion while leaving a media briefing by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain. The briefing took place at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) in Kuala Lumpur, where updates on the GISBH investigation were provided. Although Mohd Shuhaily refrained from disclosing further details due to the ongoing investigation, his one word summary, "disgusting," strongly suggests the severity and disturbing nature of the findings.
This case, I am disgusted by the findings, he was quoted as saying. He then declined to elaborate further, stating, As usual, I cannot say much about the case, and I will not comment further since the case is still under investigation. All I can say is… in this case, I am disgusted by the findings. That’s all, thank you.
The investigation, dubbed Op Global, has centered on serious allegations involving child exploitation, particularly in charity homes believed to be operated by GISBH. The probe gained public attention last week when the Bukit Aman CID conducted major raids in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan, rescuing 402 individuals from these homes. Among those rescued were 201 boys and 201 girls, all between the ages of one and 17 years. These homes, which were operating under the guise of charity, are now at the center of allegations of severe child exploitation and possible links to organized crime.
Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain provided further details during the same press conference, revealing that statements had been recorded from a total of 740 individuals as part of the investigation. This included testimonies from 30 complainants, 216 witnesses, 392 victims, and 102 suspects. According to Razarudin, the case has uncovered connections to organized criminal activities, raising further concerns about the scale and complexity of the operations under GISBH.
The case has sparked widespread condemnation and unease, particularly due to the vulnerable nature of the victims involved. The authorities are under pressure to bring justice to the victims while also dismantling any criminal networks linked to the charity homes. The Malaysian public remains outraged by the revelations, with many calling for stricter enforcement and harsher penalties for those involved in such heinous activities.
This case highlights the ongoing issue of child exploitation, not just in Malaysia but worldwide. It also serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance in monitoring organizations that claim to operate as charitable entities but may be involved in illegal or exploitative practices.
