President of Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (MUDA), Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman suggested to the government to extend the Deepavali break which only received a day break at the moment.

The suggestion was made after he received messages from many Indian university students, who voiced their disappointment over the short break.

Sinar Harian reported that, according to the screenshots shared by the ex-Minister of Youth and Sports, the short break doesn't give them the opportunity to celebrate their holy occasion as they have to go back to class the very next day.

"It is just one day and we cannot even celebrate our festival as we have class the very next day and most of us cannot even go back home to visit and celebrate it with our family members," says a student in the screenshot.

The student sent the message to Syed Saddiq in hopes that he may voice out their plights to the government in the hope for some actions to be taken so they celebrate the festival in peace, surrounded by their family.

The previous Muar representative posted on his Facebook, pondering over the reason why Deepavali didn't receive the same treatment as Hari Raya and Chinese New Year.

"Many asked me, why Deepavali only gets one day off?" says Syed Saddiq in his post.

"But, if it's Hari Raya or Chinese New Year, they get two days off," add Syed Saddiq.

The question of the unfairness stemmed due to the rush the students have to face during the celebration.

According to the screenshot message, most students can't go back home and celebrate the occasion due to class attendance on the next day.

Syed Saddiq also expressed his sympathy to the students on this issue.

"I feel sorry for them. Even to celebrate Deepavali, they have to rush back to their respective universities," says Syed Saddiq.

Deepavali is one of the holiest celebrations in Hinduism, celebrating the victory of light over darkness.

Unfortunately, the break for the celebration was not enforced in Sarawak.
