Kota Kinabalu: It will be a feast of short films this evening (Wednesday) at the Kota Kinabalu International Film Festival’s (KKIFF) Cinebalu Screenings at the City Cineplex, City Mall, here.

Seven short films, including from Sabah, of various genres and themes will be shown beginning 8pm.

Mondou

Director: Mohd Hanis Fadhil Jaafri

The film revolves around a group of Borneo Ranger soldiers engaged in a battle in Matunggong, Sabah, during the 1940s. As they attempt to escape the conflict, they bring a prisoner named Lakisan into the forest. There, they confront local enemies and face an ethical dilemma when Lakisan reveals the danger of the area. As they try to escape the forest, they encounter supernatural entities, a mysterious woman dressed in black and Mondou. There are unexpected and frightening experiences that unveil secrets and supernatural forces, altering the fate of the group.

Indigo

Indigo, a stuttering college student, finds a magic cubicle in the toilets that transports him back in time. Upon abusing this power to improve his speech problem, Indigo gets lost in time and experiences the history of student activism in his university from the 1970s to the 2000s. This film aims to rediscover historical narratives, given the Philippines’ present political situation – another Marcos regime – and as we are faced with historical revisionism.

Three Parts of Life

Asmara

Samira is a grandmother who has lived three parts of her life – first, with her daughter who married and converted, then with the death of her husband, and now at the end with loneliness.

All films have English subtitles, and there will also be three question-and-answer sessions for “Mondou”, “Indigo” and “Three Parts of Life”.
