- In an exclusive interview with The Independent, Kern de Gonzalez has recounted holding Joss as he died while the suspect, Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez, allegedly laughed and made homophobic remarks.
- Kern de Gonzales said there had been ongoing harassment and feuding with the suspect, including racist and homophobic abuse directed at Joss.
- However, San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) stated there is "no evidence" the murder was motivated by bigotry. Alvarez is now facing first-degree murder charges.
