A viral Threads post sparks debate on whether it is safe or acceptable to bring luggage into airport restrooms when travelling alone.
TRAVELLING alone often requires passengers to keep a close watch on their belongings at all times, a practice many consider basic travel precaution.
However, a recent Threads post has initiated debate online after a traveller claimed he was reprimanded by another passenger at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) for bringing his luggage into a restroom.
Sharing the incident on Threads, the traveller wrote: “Just curious, if you’re alone at the airport and need to use the restroom, do you bring your luggage in with you?
“I got scolded at KLIA earlier because I brought my bag into the toilet. It was a mother and her child.
“So I replied, ‘If my bag goes missing, are you going to compensate me for everything inside it?’
“The funniest part was when she said, ‘This is KLIA, there are CCTV cameras everywhere if something gets stolen.’
“Please help me understand how that’s supposed to prevent theft from happening in the first place.
“I was honestly speechless,” the user wrote.
The post quickly gained traction, with many netizens siding with the traveller and saying it is common practice to bring luggage into restrooms when travelling alone.
Many pointed out that while CCTV cameras may assist in identifying perpetrators after an incident, they do not prevent theft from occurring in real time.
Others said they would never leave their belongings unattended in airports, regardless of perceived security levels.
“Bring it into the restroom with you. Don’t leave your bag unattended at the airport. Besides theft, there’s also the risk of people suspecting it contains something dangerous,” one user, zuuvuvrif, commented.
“Doesn’t she know one of the basic airport rules is: ‘Do not leave your luggage unattended’?” zeruljonid added.
“Even if it gets lost, it can be replaced. But if someone with bad intentions plants something illegal inside, it would be far more serious.
“I’m not overly protective of my belongings, but at airports you have to be cautious; people these days can be unpredictable,” azdiskndr_ wrote.
