A senior leader of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia has openly urged Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to relinquish his position, arguing that recent unilateral actions have triggered internal turmoil and fractured trust within the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition.
In a statement issued in Kuala Lumpur on February 3, 2026, Bersatu Supreme Council member Yunus Nuddin said Muhyiddin’s conduct, particularly moves linked to the removal of the PN chairmanship, had been carried out without collective endorsement and had undermined confidence among coalition partners. Yunus maintained that such actions were inconsistent with the consultative principles that form the foundation of PN.
According to Yunus, the Supreme Council never deliberated on or approved discussions allegedly held between Muhyiddin and the PAS leadership concerning changes to PN’s leadership structure. He stressed that portraying these matters as collective decisions had contributed to confusion and political instability, both within Bersatu and across the wider coalition.
Yunus added that calls for Muhyiddin to step down were not isolated, noting that several Supreme Council members had previously raised similar concerns amid escalating disputes and organisational disorder. He described the resignation of the party president as a reasonable step under current circumstances, especially as the coalition grapples with strained relationships and eroding internal trust.
Highlighting the need for decisive yet unifying leadership, Yunus argued that PN was facing a critical juncture that required authority, discipline and political maturity. He said the coalition’s survival depended on a leader capable of bringing together its component parties under shared principles and a clear direction.
In this context, Yunus endorsed Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin as the most suitable figure to assume the role of acting party president. He pointed to Hamzah’s experience, standing within the party and reputation for political pragmatism as key strengths that could help resolve internal conflicts, consolidate Bersatu’s leadership and repair strained ties within PN.
Yunus further suggested that Muhyiddin should prioritise addressing his ongoing legal challenges, including matters related to the Jana Wibawa case. He warned that prolonged controversies surrounding party leadership risked dragging down both Bersatu and the coalition at a time when political stability was crucial.
