SIPITANG: Sindumin candidate Moktar Matussin (pic) said the overwhelming support from young people and new voters in the district signals strong approval for Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku’s (StarSabah) mission to champion Sabah’s interests.

He noted that party members at congresses and annual meetings have consistently called for the party to remain independent from peninsula-based political parties.

“StarSabah advocates a ‘Borneo First’ approach. This is not about race or rejecting federal leadership, but emphasising Sabah’s position as an equal partner in the formation of Malaysia,” he said after a prize presentation ceremony for the 40 per cent Fun Run Justice For Sabah at Kampung Merintaman StarSabah headquarters.

He said through this agenda, StarSabah is seen as firmly defending people’s rights and developing the State in accordance with the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

“Supporting autonomy and administrative rights should be the State’s priority. People feel StarSabah speaks more boldly on these issues,” he said.

He said while Federal involvement remains necessary, Sabahans should be empowered to make their own decisions without interference from peninsula-based parties.

“Even when peninsula party candidates are Sabahans, every decision requires approval from the peninsula, making it seem like we lack leadership.

“Many voters believe local parties better understand the needs of rural communities and the State’s social fabric. Give Sabahans the chance to decide for themselves so actions can be implemented faster, following Sarawak’s example,” he added.
