There have been recent stories of women being denied entry or medical care in government facilities when there was an emergency simply because of their attire.

For starters, a woman was barred access to the Kajang Police Station to file an accident report just because she was wearing shorts.

The police officers then instructed her to go home and change.

The same scenario happened to another lady who was suffering from severe menstrual cramps and could barely walk and was denied medical care at Kampar Hospital because she was also wearing shorts.

In fact, the Medical Officer Assistant responded harshly and berated her friends after they politely inquired why she couldn't be treated.

Is it fair to compel a woman to change into proper attire when she is there to seek assistance from the authorities given all the issues that are present?

1. What if the woman's house was far away?

2. Does it only require officials to take a matter seriously when she is on the point of needing critical care?

Clearly, something needs to be done here.
