On 12 Feb 2026, 3 NGOs namelyPertubuhan Pribumi Perkasa Malaysia (Perkasa), Malaysian Muslim Consumers Association (PPIM) and Pertubuhan Angkatan Nadi Jiwa Islam Malaysia (Panji Malaysia) filed a report with MACC alleging misappropriation by a former Minister linked to the investment.
4 days later, reportedly in response to a query from a business weekly on 16 Feb 2026, MACC affirmed publicly that following the report, they have opened an investigation paper into an agreement between the federal government and a foreign company, estimated to be worth RM1.1 billion.
Pursuant to opening an investigation, shouldn’t the police interview and investigate those 3 NGOs and find out how did they obtained those documents that showed a former Minister misappropriated monies from the deal that the country did with ARM Holdings?
It is presumed that documents, any, pertaining to the deal with ARM Holdings are confidential and are classified official secrets as the deal is supposedly the anchor for the country’s National Semiconductor Strategy.
It is the general presumption that official document is liable to be classified as an 'official secret.
On 26 Feb 2026, police visited Bloomberg’s office at the PETRONAS Twin Towers and interviewed the authors of two articles published reportedly in connection with investigative reports on MACC.
Similarly and earlier in 2022, the police also investigated an investigative journalist over 2 articles the journalist wrote on the alleged wrongdoings by head of an enforcement agency.
The authorities had set a precedent in the above 2 cases.
Probably they need to determine the authenticity of the allegations and that it was not something spurious created to smear the image and reputation of the subject matter.
Thus, in this allegation on the ARM deal, shouldn’t the authorities investigate the 3 NGOs and find out how they obtained those documents they claimed showed misappropriation by a former Minister.
It is critical and relevant that this step is undertaken prior because the investigating authorities has set a precedent in other cases.
