LONDON: Halal Street UK, which was founded in 2014 by Malaysian Simon K Suresh and goes by the brand name OMalaysia, is about to advance in its portfolio.
With the help of 15 staff in London and Kuala Lumpur, Simon, who has lived in the UK for almost 20 years, is now prepared to expand his company’s scope of commerce. Halal Street UK is the largest online marketplace for Malaysian halal food and goods in the UK.
To kick off the P100 Project, Halal Street UK, under the brand name OMalaysia, has inked an agreement with Glopec in December 2022, a State Government project in Sabah, Malaysia, to support its Made-in-Sabah products by local MSMEs entering the UK market.
With offices in Kuala Lumpur and London; a 10,000sq ft warehouse in Leicester, United Kingdom; sales was at £23,120.68 in September 2022; with total projected sales of £2 million in 2023.
The P100 Project, which would place Malaysian items for sale in 100 retailers across the UK, would be one method of increasing Malaysian product exports.
Next, Halal Street UK will actively approach all 13 Malaysian states to join the P100 Project in accessing the UK market.
During a recent visit by Malaysian Matrade London Office led by Trade Commissioner Nurdiana Abdullah Simon when asked about the role of Matrade in the P100 Project, he said.
“We at Halal Street UK believe in helping to improve the country’s economy through the Malaysian export activities and Matrade has been one of our strongest allies in doing so.
“We pledge to ensure that the P100 Project contributes to the nation’s goal of 25 per cent MSMEs contribution shares by 2025, as stated in the 12th Malaysia Plan and the National Entrepreneurship Policy.”
He said when he started Halal Street UK, it was with the aim of aiding Malaysians living in to have access to Malaysian products.
“As time passed, I recognised that Halal Street UK could also assist Malaysian MSMEs in expanding into international markets.
“Our success has prompted us to use our online assets by introducing a value-added offline service in which our consumers, both Asians and Westerners, have the option of getting the things they desire through our marketplace or stores nearby.”
