MALAYSIAN Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain today thanked the public for standing by him as he faces legal proceedings over an incident involving two policemen at KLIA Terminal 1.
Speaking outside the Sepang court complex on Wednesday, he said the support had given him the strength and confidence to face the legal process, adding that he would make no further public statements on the matter.
“I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone from all walks of life who has supported me through prayers and text messages. That has given me the strength and confidence to continue with this process,” he said.
“This will be my final statement on this matter. Once the proceedings are over, my lawyers will speak on my behalf,” he added.
Mohd Shuhaily faces two charges under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt to two policemen at KLIA Terminal 1 in Sepang last month.
The case came to public attention after a video showing a confrontation involving Mohd Shuhaily and two policemen at the airport went viral on social media on Sept 28. The policemen subsequently lodged reports alleging that they had been assaulted.
On Oct 17, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the Attorney General’s Chambers had returned the investigation papers to the police for further action, requesting improvements before deciding on the next course of action.
Attorney General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar had earlier confirmed that the case involved allegations of voluntarily causing hurt under Section 323 of the Penal Code.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail was previously reported as saying that Bukit Aman’s Criminal Investigation Department had recorded statements from 25 witnesses to assist the investigation.
On Oct 1, Mohd Shuhaily said he was prepared to accept any decision or action arising from the case.
He had also said he did not want KLIA to become like Selayang, stressing that the airport should be free of foreign nationals acting as illegal touts. -
Two Policemen to Sue Mohd Shuhaily for Compensation Within Seven Days
In a new development, two police officers who were allegedly assaulted by the AKPS director-general is expected to sue him for compensation within seven days.
Their lawyer, Kamal Hisham Jaffar, said the claim would be filed after medical reports are obtained from Salak Health Centre and Cyberjaya Hospital to assess the injuries and psychological impact suffered by the two officers.
“We promise to file the action in court within these seven days,” he told a press conference after proceedings at the Magistrates’ Court in Sepang today.
Kamal Hisham said he was representing both officers pro bono, denying social media allegations that a syndicate or cartel was financing their legal representation.
He also urged the public to stop speculating that the officers were linked to an alleged syndicate or “counter setting” activities, saying these had no bearing on the incident underlying the charges.
One officer had been stationed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) for only seven days at the time of the incident, while the other had served there for three years, he said.
“We just want to say that what happened today concerns an act of violence by a senior officer against lower-ranking personnel. That is all,” he said, adding that the courts should determine the facts and responsibility.
Another lawyer, Muhammad Noor Tamrin, urged the public to avoid excessive commentary that could interfere with the judicial process, stressing that the presumption of innocence and the right to justice for both parties must be respected.
Mohd Shuhaily earlier pleaded not guilty at the Magistrates’ Court to two charges of causing hurt to the officers on Sept 28.
The charges, under Section 323 of the Penal Code, carry a maximum jail term of one year, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.
The magistrate granted bail of RM1,500 with one surety for each charge and fixed Nov 25 for the next mention and submission of documents. Mohd Shuhaily subsequently paid the bail.
He had previously said he was prepared to accept any decision by the country's legal system, describing the cost of improving border security as one he was willing to bear personally. - October 21, 2026
