Out of the way, kids. It’s about to be millennial mayhem in cinemas soon with Princess Diaries 3 entering production, and we have more than just a few ideas as to what plotlines could (or should) happen in the third installment to this beloved trilogy.
In case you’ve been living under a rock, Princess Diaries 3 is officially happening. Adele Lim is set to take over for the late Garry Marshall with Anne Hathaway returning and also producing. Millennials are over the moon with the news and can’t wait to watch the film.
While we’re keeping our fingers crossed that Julie Andrews, Hector Elizondo, and Chris Pine will return, we’ve also come up with some possible plotlines that could happen in Princess Diaries 3. A happy marriage, a new princess, and the return of Paolo are just some of the things we’re hoping will happen in the third entry of the iconic Disney franchise.

Princess Diaries 3: Storylines we’d love to see on screen
Mia and Nicholas are happily married

There’s a reason why Anne Hathaway and Chris Pine still look this good after all these years and we firmly believe it’s because they still have to do Princess Diaries 3. We’re hoping to see Mia and Nicholas happily married with Mia as Queen of Genovia and Nicholas as Prince. They have the royal thing down, managing the pressures of royalty and being in the spotlight with grace and poise, while also being just downright adorable and loving when away from the spotlight.
Look, we really just want Mia and Nicholas to finally live in domestic bliss, okay?
… and they have a daughter!

But of course, Mia and Nicholas would most likely have a kid by this time. If Mia is already in her forties like Anne Hathaway is in real life, it won’t be surprising if she has a teenage daughter. Mia was 15 in the first film and it’s possible for her daughter to be the same age.
As for who can play Mia and Nicholas’ beloved daughter, Disney could find a fresh-faced newcomer much like Anne was in the first film. There are also a few relative unknowns out there like That 90’s Show’s Callie Haverda and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’s Julia Butters who would be great for the role.
But she’s as awkward and introverted as her mum and wants nothing to do with being a princess

Like mother, like daughter. As much as Mia was an awkward teenager who initially didn’t want to be a princess, her daughter is the same. This time around though, her daughter grew up in the confines of royalty so as an awkward introverted teen, she wants nothing more than to break free from that and just be herself without the pressure of being Princess of Genovia. Plus, her friends poke fun at her for her title.
Queen Mia is, of course, frustrated and doesn’t know what to do, which is the perfect opportunity for a hero to save the day, that hero being none other than Grandma Clarisse.
Grandma Clarisse and Grandpa Joe are doing great, and Grandma Clarisse dishes out her timeless wisdom to help Mia on how she can be there for her daughter

Ever since passing the crown to Mia, Clarisse has been living a quiet and happy life with Joe. When Mia’s daughter came along, they of course became doting great-grandparents who spoiled and adored their brand new great-granddaughter. But Mia’s struggles with her daughter puts Clarisse back in the role she was in years ago: training Mia on how to be there for her daughter properly. It’s a heartwarming thing where even years later, Mia in her forties is still and always will be Clarisse’s granddaughter and princess.
Lily is the cool aunt and now lives in Genovia

Lily Moscovitz, Mia’s best friend and vocal activist, continues her activism as non-profit worker and has now worked in Genovia to live close to her bestie. She’s now more affectionately known as Aunt Lily by Mia’s daughter and takes pride in being the cool aunt. While Mia and Nicholas try to keep their daughter on the straight and narrow, Aunt Lily is there supporting her hijinks and desire to be free from the shackles of royalty much to Mia’s chagrin.
Mia passes her diaries to her daughter

This film is called Princess Diaries after all, and Mia’s already a queen. So in the latter half of the movie as Mia tries her best to connect with her daughter and school her in all things royalty, she digs up the diaries she was writing in when going through the transition from high school outsider to princess and the whole issue with her taking the throne without being married. She passes it to her daughter, who realises her mother also wrestled with many of the things she’s struggling with, and Mia encourages her to write down her own experiences, thus passing on the diary to a new generation and a new princess.
Fat Louie has sadly passed but Little Louie is now Mia’s daughter’s best friend

Sadly, it’s impossible for Fat Louie to have survived after all these years but he probably sired a litter of kittens. One of them is affectionately called Little Louie and was immediately Mia’s daughter’s bestie. Much like Fat Louie and Mia, they’re inseparable, and Mia’s daughter finds solace in the adorable cat when she feels like she’s all alone in the world.
Finally, Paulo returns to work his magic once again—this time on Mia’s daughter

It’s not Princess Diaries without a Paulo makeover. The hilarious master of beauty makes yet another appearance this time to prep Mia’s daughter for an upcoming ball, giving her a makeover that only Paulo could do and making her a cute moose that makes all the boy moose go “Wahhhhh”.
