SINGAPORE: Singapore Airlines (SIA) and Scoot will prohibit passengers from using power banks to charge their devices during flights starting in April, CNA reported.
The airlines announced on Facebook that passengers would also be barred from charging power banks via onboard USB ports for safety reasons.
Power banks with a capacity of up to 100Wh are allowed without approval, while those between 100Wh and 160Wh require airline approval and anything above 160Wh is banned.
SIA and Scoot stated that they comply with the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) Dangerous Goods Regulations, which classify power banks as lithium batteries.
Similar restrictions have been imposed by airlines such as Air Busan and EVA Air, while Thai Airways will enforce a ban on power bank use onboard starting March 15.
