A brief but bizarre showdown near a toll plaza has captured the attention — and amusement

Scrolling through my feed recently, I stumbled upon a video that left me both amused and concerned. Two men, in the middle of a toll plaza, appeared to be engaging in a martial arts face-off—one showcasing silat moves, the other adopting a boxing stance. It felt like a scene straight out of a local action film, but this was real life, caught on camera and posted online for the world to see.

In the 28-second clip, a shirtless man wearing a sarong steps out of his Perodua Bezza, wielding what appears to be a sharp object. He performs dramatic silat moves—stances, strikes, even a few spins—right in the middle of traffic. Opposite him, another man calmly raises his fists, ready in a boxing pose. Luckily, the situation didn’t escalate into violence, as a third party intervened before it got out of hand.

While many netizens found humor in the theatrical display, dubbing it "Mat Kilau vs. Wong Fei Hung," the underlying issue is no laughing matter. Reports suggest that the altercation stemmed from a road incident where the Bezza driver allegedly swerved from the emergency lane, prompting the other driver to honk. This led to a confrontation where the Bezza driver reportedly brandished a weapon and performed silat moves.

Further investigations revealed that the man performing silat, identified as Mohd Shakirin bin Rejab, had recently been released from jail. He is now wanted by the police for allegedly causing hurt and criminal intimidation under Sections 323 and 506 of the Penal Code.

This incident, while seemingly humorous on the surface, underscores a deeper issue of road rage and aggressive behavior on our roads. It's a reminder that while our cultural heritage, like silat, is something to be proud of, it should not be misused or displayed in situations that endanger others.
