A SINGAPOREAN actor and a trader from the republic were brought before the Magistrates’ Court here today on charges of behaving indecently by arguing inside a police station on Sunday.
The accused, P Suresh, 46, and Chua Chin Heng, 56, entered different pleas after the charges were read to them by a court interpreter before Magistrate A Shaarmini.
Suresh pleaded guilty after the charge was read in Tamil and was fined RM400, or one month’s imprisonment in default.
Chua, however, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read in English and was granted bail of RM4,000 with one Malaysian citizen as surety.
According to the charge sheet, both men were accused of behaving indecently by arguing within the compound of Larkin Police Station at the Johor Bahru South District Police Headquarters at about 6.15pm on Sunday.
They were charged under Section 90 of the Police Act 1967 read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of six months’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM500, or both, upon conviction.
Separately, before Magistrate Nabilah Nizam, Suresh was fined RM1,500 after pleading guilty to causing injury to Chua by hitting him.
Meanwhile, before Magistrate Shaarmini, Chua, together with his wife Loe Sou Peng, 55, and their only child, Axl Chua Kai Jun, 27, pleaded not guilty to causing injury to Suresh, also by hitting him, after the charge was read in English.
The alleged offence took place at a shopping centre near Jalan Serigala here at about 5.17pm on the same day.
The four were charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code read together with Section 34 of the same code, which provides for a sentence of up to one year’s imprisonment, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.
The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutors Sarah Siti Aisyah Mustapha Kamal, Nor Deana Aqilah Aliman and Siti Aishah Latif. Chua’s family was represented by lawyers Muadz Zulkarnain and Jagveer Singh, while Suresh was represented by Mehnagha Luckhamana.
Magistrate Shaarmini allowed the Chua family to be released on a combined bail of RM19,000 with a Malaysian citizen as surety and fixed January 27 for mention for the submission of documents.
Earlier reports stated that two Singaporean men had been arrested after being involved in a fight within the Larkin Police Station compound.
The incident followed an earlier altercation between the two at a shopping centre, allegedly triggered by dissatisfaction after one suspect’s wife complained of being splashed by beer when another suspect nearly bumped into her. - December 24, 2025
