Malaysian man arrested at Singapore’s Woodlands Checkpoint with 8.6kg cannabis and 1.5kg ‘ice’ worth over S$361,000
SINGAPORE: Singapore authorities arrested a Malaysian man for allegedly attempting to smuggle drugs, including more than 8.6 kilogrammes (kg) of cannabis and 1.5 kg of ‘ice’, in a car at Woodlands Checkpoint, the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said.
In a statement, ICA said the 22-year-old was arrested on Aug 1 after officers found a box in the car boot containing two blocks of substances believed to contain controlled drugs, estimated to be worth more than S$361,000 (S$1=RM3.19).
“Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) officers were immediately alerted to the detection and conducted further checks on the man and the car, which led to more controlled drugs being found in the car boot.
“A total of about 8,646g of cannabis and 1,569g of ‘ice’ were seized, which could potentially feed the addiction of about 2,132 abusers for a week,” it said on Wednesday.
The agency noted that under Section 7 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1973, anyone who imports into or exports from Singapore more than 250g of methamphetamine, or more than 500g of cannabis, may face the death penalty.
