Singapore's Prime Minister, Lawrence Wong, returned home on June 12 after completing a successful two-day working visit to Malaysia. This visit marks the conclusion of his series of introductory trips to Southeast Asian capitals, including recent visits to Brunei and Malaysia.

Wong, accompanied by his wife Loo Tze Lui, received a red carpet ceremonial send-off and was honored with a guard-of-honor by the First Battalion Royal Ranger Regiment, led by Captain Mohd Shahrin Mohd Yusuf. The delegation departed Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1 aboard Singapore Airlines flight SQ125 at 8:40 pm.

Present at the departure were Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Mohamad Alamin and the Foreign Ministry’s Chief of Protocol, Datuk Mohd Aini Atan, who bid farewell to the Singaporean Prime Minister and his entourage.

During his visit, Wong met with Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Both leaders affirmed their commitment to deepening ties between their nations across various sectors. In their first official meeting at Seri Perdana, they discussed bilateral relations openly and candidly, emphasizing the importance of collaboration.

This visit was Wong's inaugural trip to Malaysia since being sworn in as Singapore's prime minister on May 15. Like his predecessor Lee Hsien Loong, Wong demonstrated a strong commitment to addressing ongoing bilateral issues. Key topics of discussion included the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), the water agreement, and airspace and maritime border concerns.

Wong also received a courtesy call from Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who serves as the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister. They exchanged views on bilateral matters and discussed regional and international issues of mutual interest, highlighting the collaborative spirit between the two nations.

Wong's visit underscores the importance of maintaining strong diplomatic and economic relations between Singapore and Malaysia. The discussions and agreements reached during this visit are expected to further enhance cooperation and resolve outstanding issues, benefiting both countries. As Wong concludes his series of introductory visits to Southeast Asian capitals, the outcomes signal a promising future for regional collaboration and development.
