Singapore’s new VEP verification rule ensures foreign vehicles have valid motor insurance before entering via land checkpoints from Oct 6.
SINGAPORE: All foreign-registered vehicles entering Singapore via land checkpoints must have a valid Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) beginning Oct 6, 2026, said the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA)
It said travellers entering Singapore by car through Woodlands or Tuas Checkpoint must ensure their vehicle has a valid VEP before submitting their SG Arrival Card (SGAC).
ICA said the system will verify the VEP status of the foreign-registered car when the SGAC is submitted and will alert travellers including passengers if it does not have a valid VEP.
“If the vehicle does not have a valid VEP, travellers will not be able to complete their SGAC submission.
“They will be prompted to apply for a VEP before travelling to Singapore,” it said in a Facebook post on Tuesday.
According to ICA, a valid VEP also ensures that the vehicle has the requisite motor insurance coverage in Singapore, as valid motor insurance for the entire duration of the vehicle’s stay is a requirement for obtaining the VEP.
“The advance VEP verification therefore helps travellers ascertain before their journey that the vehicle they are travelling in is adequately insured in the event of a road accident.
“A VEP cannot be issued without motor insurance,” it added.
