A Singaporean social media influencer was fined RM1,000 by the Malaysian Magistrate Court after she pleaded guilty to a charge of making a false report about her being kidnapped behind a shopping mall in Johor.
According to a report by Kosmo, Magistrate Hidayatul Syuhada Shamsudin imposed the sentence on 45-year-old Amyra Laila Ho, after the charge was read out in English by a court interpreter. She was also ordered to be jailed for 3 weeks if she failed to pay the fine, which she had paid off.
Amyra Laila Ho, who is unemployed, was charged with giving false information to a police officer on duty at the Larkin Police Station at 1:02am on January 22 (Wednesday).
She lodged a police report claiming that she was approached by 2 individuals, a man and a woman, while she was behind a shopping centre in Taman Abad at about 1pm on January 10 (Friday).
She then said that she was offered Chinese tea in conjunction with the Chinese New Year festivities before claiming that she was forced to smell the tea that was being promoted, causing her to feel numb and dizzy.
Johor Police Chief, Datuk M. Kumar, later announced that the results of the investigations and the findings of technical evidence from CCTV recordings did not show the woman’s movements in the area involved.
