Police believe a single mother’s murder in a Penang flat was motivated by jealousy, with three men detained to assist in the ongoing investigation.

BUTTERWORTH: Police suspect jealousy was the motive behind the murder of a single mother found dead in her flat on Wednesday.

Penang police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail said three men, including a foreign national, have been detained to assist in the case.

The suspects, aged between 38 and 45, are self-employed or labourers and have been remanded until Feb 11.

Azizee stated that police do not rule out the possibility the murder was linked to a romantic relationship.

“I cannot comment further as investigations are ongoing,” he told Bernama.

The 41-year-old victim, a school van driver, was found with slash wounds to her neck in a room of her Sri Murni Flats apartment.

Neighbours alerted police at about 1.40 pm after she failed to respond despite her apartment door being open.
