A sinkhole appeared in the middle of a road in Seoul on the morning of August 29, swallowing an entire car with 2 people reportedly injured, with 1 one of them in critical condition.
According to reports by The Korea Harald, a sinkhole opened up in the middle of a road in Seodaemun district, western Seoul. The white SUV, carrying a man in his 80s and a woman in her 70s, tipped over sideways and fell into the sinkhole.
The woman went into cardiac arrest
According to KBS World, the asphalt gave way on a four-lane road in Seoul’s Seodaemun District at around 11:26 a.m. on Thursday, creating a sinkhole 2 and a half meters deep, 6 meters long, and 4 meters wide.
Korea JoongAng Daily reported that the woman, found in cardiac arrest, had to undergo cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), but her pulse was eventually restored.
The sinkhole led to major traffic congestion, and authorities are now investigating to determine the exact cause.
Sinkhole in Jalan Masjid India, Kuala Lumpur
Sinkholes have been making headlines recently, especially after a 48-year-old Indian tourist fell into a sinkhole that emerged on Jalan Masjid India last Friday.
As of August 27, the search for the missing person, Vijayaletchumi, continues with no leads on her whereabouts. DBKL has now begun using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) to aid in the search.
While the sinkhole victim is still missing, another sunken road has been discovered in Masjid India, just 50 meters from the previous sinkhole.
