Sipitang project to need engineers

Kota Kinabalu: The joint development of oil and gas facilities at the Sipitang Oil and Gas Industrial Park (SOGIP) by Sabah Oil and Gas Development Corporation Sdn Bhd (SOGDC) and Gibson Shipbroker Ltd. will significantly alter the landscape of Sipitang.

Sindumin Assemblyman Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob said: “It will create job opportunities, and the people of Sipitang will be given priority,” he stated regarding the agreement witnessed by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor at Menara Kinabalu, recently.

The agreement sets the stage for joint development activities at SOGIP, including the construction of specialised piers, onshore hydrocarbon storage terminals, floating power plants, LNG bunkering operations, and LNG carriers, with an anticipated creation of 1,600 jobs.

During the same event, SOGDC and Gibson also digitally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Aramco Trading Singapore Pte Ltd. for sustainable raw material sourcing for the project.

Read more Dr Yusof, who is also Qhazanah Sabah Berhad (QSB) chairman, urged the people of Sipitang to seize the job opportunities, from cleaning roles to engineering positions.

“We need to ascertain the number of engineers and technicians required,” he said, noting that the project is expected to commence in three years.

Dr Yusof described the project’s overall impact as both challenging and beneficial, underscoring his commitment to ensuring its realisation for the benefit of Sipitang district, particularly in stimulating economic activities such as business and housing development.

He emphasised that he has consistently encouraged Sipitang residents to prepare for the developmental impact brought by SOGIP.
