SIPITANG: Some 87 Umno members from the Sipitang Division, 46 from the Umno branch in Kampung Kukup and 41 from the Umno branch in Kampung Berumbai left the party to join the Lumadan Division United Sabah Party (PBS).

Also joining in the same footsteps were 45 Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) Kampung Kukup branch members, led by Mohd Tahir Basin, who witnessed the dissolution of the three branches.

The PBS membership forms were handed over to Lumadan Divisional PBS Chief and Lumadan Assemblyman, Datuk Ruslan Muharam in a ceremony held at Kampung Berumbai, here, on Monday.

All the branch chiefs involved shared the reason for their actions in joining PBS, as well as establishing a new PBS branch because they are confident in its struggle, especially under Ruslan’s leadership.

At the same time, he said, he was attracted by Ruslan’s leadership, who is described as a fair and impartial leader in helping the people.

“Ruslan has brought many changes in this area including, most importantly, solving various problems faced by the people in a short time even before even serving one full term.

“Therefore, we need this kind of leader to fight together in one local party, which is PBS, for the benefit of the people and this area,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ruslan welcomed the entry of 132 Umno and Warisan branch members into PBS because he believed in the noble struggle of the oldest local party in Sabah.

Ruslan, who is also Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, said it also signifies the struggle of PBS Lumadan under his leadership to fulfil their wishes especially in developing the area.

“As a representative of the people, I personally implement the concept of a personal touch without favouritism because I will help and serve all the people regardless of political ideology, religion and race.

“Everyone is treated well and fairly, so well done to all who want to join me in the PBS struggle for the well-being of the people, especially in these two villages,” he said.
