The Election Commission of India (ECI) will be conducting the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Chandigarh under Phase III from June 15 to July 14.
The last intensive revision was conducted in the UT in 2002. Being a single parliamentary constituency, Chandigarh has nearly 5.18 lakh electors currently registered across 614 polling stations. As many as 614 booth-level officers (BLOs), assisted by 1,143 booth-level agents appointed by political parties, will conduct house-to-house visits to reach all 5.18 lakh electors during the enumeration phase of the exercise. The qualifying date for the SIR is July 1 this year.
According to the ECI schedule, preparatory work, training and printing activities will be carried out from June 5 to June 14. The BLOs will conduct door-to-door verification and collect voters’ information from June 15 to July 14. The rationalisation of polling stations will be completed by July 14, while the draft electoral rolls will be published on July 21.
Thereafter, claims and objections can be filed from July 21 to August 20. Disposal of claims and objections will be undertaken from July 21 to September 18. Following the special summary revision process, the final electoral roll will be published on September 22.
