The Sirsa district administration on Thursday conducted a large-scale mock exercise at Panihari village and near Mirpur on the Sirsa-Rania-Dabwali highway to assess preparedness for flood-like situations during monsoons.

Officials said the drill aimed to test coordination among departments and evaluate emergency response systems during times of disaster.

During the exercise, a simulated emergency scenario was created in which information was received at the district control room that a breach had occurred in the Ghaggar river embankment near Panihari village and that several people had fallen into the river.

Following the alert, police, ambulance and rescue teams rushed to the spot. Teams from the NDRF, Civil Defence and Army launched search and rescue operations using special rescue equipment and motorboats. Eight persons shown drowning in the river during the drill were rescued and provided first aid.
