PAPAR: YB Datuk Juil Nuatim, State Assemblyman (ADUN) for Limbahau, conducted a site visit to the Kabang raw water intake to assess the progress of its upgrading project.
This project is being carried out to ensure an adequate supply of treated water in the Papar district, particularly during prolonged drought seasons.
These drought conditions often cause saltwater levels to rise beyond controllable thresholds, forcing the closure of the raw water intake for the EWSS Papar Water Treatment Plant (WTP) and Limbahau WTP.
With the increased capacity of the Kabang raw water intake, a stable and sufficient supply of treated water can be delivered to consumers from the EWSS Papar WTP and Limbahau WTP, especially during extended droughts and high saltwater level situations.
YB Datuk Juil Nuatim also emphasized that this upgrading project is an urgent necessity to ensure sufficient treated water supply for the residents of Papar.
He expressed his hope that the project would be completed as scheduled so that its benefits could be realized by the community in the near future.
Jetama Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary under the Sabah State Ministry of Finance, has been entrusted with the implementation of the Kabang raw water intake upgrading project.
The project aims to increase its capacity from 9 million liters per day (MLD) to 30 million liters per day (MLD).
The key scope of the project includes the construction of a new intake structure, installation of high-capacity pumps, installation of a new raw water pipeline, and integration of new mechanical and electrical systems to ensure more efficient and effective operations.
The visit was also attended by Datuk Haji Roslie bin Ibrahim, Private Secretary to YB Datuk Armizan Ali, Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Malaysia and Member of Parliament for Papar, Tuan Muhammad bin Haji Ali, Papar District Officer, Datuk Yussof bin Abd Manan, Chairman of Jetama Sdn Bhd, Datuk Ahmad Naim bin Uddang, Chief Executive Officer of Jetama Sdn Bhd, and Tuan Abdul Rahim Aliuddin, Papar Parliamentary Chief Liaison Officer.
