KEPALA Batas MP Siti Mastura Muhammad, who was found to have uttered defamatory remarks against DAP’s Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang, Lim Guan Eng, and Teresa Kok by the Penang High Court, has filed an appeal against the decision.
The PAS MP also complied with the Penang High Court’s order to pay the trio RM825,000 in global damages and costs, including interest.
She submitted a cheque to the plaintiffs’ counsel, Datuk Sankara Nair, pending the appeal.
“My client has already made payment to the account of Nair’s law firm on the condition that the money will be kept in the solicitor's account pending the disposal of the appeal in the Court of Appeal.
“This is the arrangement agreed on by both parties,” Siti Mastura’s lawyer Yusfarizal Yusoff said in the Penang High Court.
He said the payment was made on condition that it be kept in the solicitor's account pending the disposal of the appeal in the Court of Appeal.
Yusfarizal said both parties agreed on this.
Earlier this morning, the counsels for both the defendant and plaintiffs reached an agreement in the chambers of Penang High Court judge Datuk Quay Chew Soon.
On December 4 last year, Penang High Court Judge Datuk Quay Chew Soon ruled that Siti Mastura’s remarks linking Kit Siang, Guan Eng, and Kok to the late Communist Party of Malaya leader, Chin Peng, and Singapore’s Lee Kuan Yew were defamatory and uttered with malice.
The court found Siti Mastura guilty of defamation and ordered her to pay RM300,000 to Kit Siang, RM250,000 to Guan Eng, RM200,000 to Kok, and RM25,000 in legal costs. - January 23, 2025
