RANAU: Six families in Mukim Suminimpod are now proud homeowners after receiving the keys to their long-awaited Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) Houses, fully completed and handed over on Tuesday.
The recipients were Elneh Jesson (Kg. Kepangian), Saibit Kaantis and Using Gudtal (Kg. Suminimpod), Jakius Kamin and Hyrinteno (Kg. Gana Gana) and Kasim Bantasan (Kg. Gaur).
Paginatan Assemblyman Datuk Abidin Madingkir, who officiated the handover, praised the GRS State Government’s SMJ Housing Programme, noting that such an initiative had never been implemented by any previous administration.
“We’re grateful for this meaningful program that gives real impact to rural communities,” said Abidin.
“Paginatan has received 100 SMJ homes since the programme began in 2022, including 15 houses in Mukim Suminimpod alone.”He added that continued support for the SMJ 2.0 Development Plan was vital, as it brings widespread benefits to the people.
He urged residents to keep backing the GRS Government, especially as the 17th State Election (PRN17) approaches.
Abidin also addressed criticisms labelling the Pekan Baru Paginatan ground-breaking ceremony as an “election gimmick,” stating that the planning began as early as 2020, with multiple agencies and community stakeholders involved. The land for the project, approximately 200 acres, has been identified and is in the process of being gazetted.
The new township will be developed in five phases and include essential facilities like government offices, shops and markets, low-cost housing, multipurpose halls, libraries, health centres, police and fire stations and religious buildingsA RM500,000 initial allocation has been approved to kick-start development works.
Meanwhile, Sibin Keidau, the Mukim Developer of Suminimpod, expressed appreciation on behalf of the SMJ house recipients, thanking the government and the assemblyman for making their dream of home ownership a reality.
Also present were Assistant District Officer Florencia Padasian, Welfare Officer Samdin Rijin, PPM Hishamudin Harun and other local leaders.
