Kota Kinabalu: The Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) managed to limit the destruction of a fire to six houses in Kg Sepakat Jaya, Sepanggar, despite facing low water pressure, Monday morning.
A man was reported to have sustained a one-inch cut requiring stitches in an attempt to save himself in the 8.20am incident.
A 32-year-old firefighter from the Lintas Station, Bonevanture James, experienced trouble breathing in the line of duty and was immediately sent to the hospital.
Quick action by 57 FRD personnel with support from the Tuaran and Kota Kinabalu Station water tankers provided enough resources to envelop the flames between two alleyways.
FRD Lintas Station Fire Chief Agustavia Joe Guasi said firefighting was briefly interrupted by low water pressure from a hydrant.
“Two vehicles were completely destroyed and another two houses were partly damaged.
“The fire was brought under control by 9.16am and the operation ended at 12.57pm,” Agustavia said.
