Kota Kinabalu: Six illegal immigrants were jailed four months each for entering the State illegally.

They were Masir Nasir, Yasir Nasir, Mazlan Albaris, Nal Kadil, Ahmad Naser and Hadi Jamirul, aged 20 and 40.

The illegal immigrants pleaded guilty separately before Sessions Court Judge Hurman Hussain to the charge against them.

They were arrested in the Tuaran town area and Jalan Tuaran Lama after they failed to produce their identity documents during an operation conducted by the Immigration Department recently.

Read more They were charged under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 which provides for a jail term of up to five years, or a fine of up to RM10,000, on conviction.

During mitigation, they told the court that they had been in the State several months and years as well as worked as labourer and fishermen.

They asked to be deported to their hometown as soon as possible.

The illegal immigrants were ordered to serve their jail sentence from the date of their arrests.

After serving the jail sentence, the illegal immigrants were ordered to be referred to the Immigration Department for deportation.

Prosecuting Officer Abu Sopian Karate from the Immigration Department appeared for the prosecution.
