Kelantan police have identified six illegal jetties in Rantau Panjang where concertina wire was cut to facilitate smuggling and illegal cross-border movement.
KOTA BHARU: Police have identified six illegal jetties in Rantau Panjang where concertina wire was cut between January and August, linked to smuggling and cross-border activities.
Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the locations involved are the illegal jetties at Kak Mah, Abe Li Posmen, Salleh, Pok Mat Lubok Gong, Abe Yee, and Adam.
“We are investigating the matter under Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief. No arrests have been made so far. We will track down those involved,” he told reporters at the Jihad Against Drugs campaign with the Brotherhood 2Nation Malaysia-Thailand motorcycle club here.
He said the acts were carried out by smugglers, including those involved in drug and contraband trafficking, as well as to clear paths for illegal cross-border movement.
Mohd Yusoff said the installation of concertina wire was among the security measures taken to curb smuggling and unauthorised movement into and out of the country.
He said the initial phase of installation covered about 1.5 kilometres from Rantau Panjang to Pangkalan Ibrahim Pencen. An application was submitted to the National Security Council to add another 2.5 kilometres in the area.
“The application was submitted about three months ago, and we are still awaiting a decision,” he said.
