Six killed after car collides with lorry on Jalan Karak Lama

SIX males aged between 15 and 25 were killed after the Toyota Vios they were travelling in collided with a one-tonne lorry on Jalan Karak Lama heading towards Temerloh, near the Jambu Rias Rural Health Clinic, early on Saturday.

The crash occurred at about 4.25 am, with all six occupants of the car pronounced dead at the scene after becoming trapped inside the heavily damaged vehicle.

Pahang Fire and Rescue Department director Datuk Mohd Razam Taja Rahim said the department's operations centre received an emergency call at 4.24 am, prompting firefighters from the Karak Fire and Rescue Station to the scene.

The first fire engine arrived at 4.32 am and found the collision involved a Toyota Vios and a one-tonne lorry.

“Six male occupants of the Toyota Vios were trapped inside the vehicle and were pronounced dead at the scene by the Ministry of Health's medical team,” he said in a statement.

The victims were identified as Mugilan A/L Vraputiran, 25, Dinesvaran A/L Kumar, 21, Alaganathan A/L Krishnan, 20, Kanabati Raja A/L Arunasalam, 18, Kiisyen A/L Sasi Kumar, 16, and Paranthaman A/L Marutayah, 15.

The driver of the one-tonne lorry, Muhamad Hanafi Ahmad Raju, 31, sustained injuries and was taken to hospital by ambulance for further treatment.

Mohd Razam said firefighters used specialised rescue equipment, including Rescue Tools and Combi Tools, to extricate the victims from the wreckage before handing their bodies over to the police for further action.

The operation involved seven personnel from the Karak Fire and Rescue Station, assisted by nine firefighters from the Mentakab Fire and Rescue Station. It was brought under control at 5.57 am and concluded at 6.40 am.
