Six people have died in a shooting in southern Turkey, local authorities said on Tuesday.

Eight other people were injured, according to an X post by the governor's office of the province of Mersin, a city on Turkey's south-eastern Mediterranean coast.

Anadolu news agency reported that the suspected attacker was a 37-year-old man who had shot dead his wife in the street on Monday evening then killed the owner and an employee at a restaurant.

He fled the scene and killed other people as he went on the run, including a 16-year-old, it said.

Police searched with helicopters and drones throughout the night to catch the attacker, who reportedly took his own life.

The suspect had a history of mental health problems and drug addiction, the governor's office said.

Turkish President /Recep Tayyip Erdoğan expressed his condolences to the relatives of the victims.
