Bosnia and Serbia police arrest six suspects in a joint operation targeting a child sexual abuse material network.

SARAJEVO: Six men were arrested Wednesday in a joint Bosnian-Serbian police operation targeting a network suspected of producing and distributing child sexual abuse material, Bosnia’s Serb entity interior ministry said.

They are accused of contacting children aged 13 and 14 through social networks, encouraging them “to create child pornography”.

“They asked the children to photograph themselves without clothing, giving them detailed instructions on how to photograph intimate parts of their bodies,” the statement said.

The group is also suspected of attempting “to arrange meetings with children for the purpose of engaging in sexual intercourse,” the ministry added.

Those detained — five Bosnians and one Serbian national — were placed in police detention.

Police carried out searches at four locations in north-eastern Bosnia, including properties used by the suspects.

Computers, mobile phones, tablets, memory cards and other data storage devices were seized.

The statement did not specify how many children had been victims of the abuse, nor whether all the suspects had been arrested in Bosnia.

The ministry’s press office had not responded to AFP’s questions.
