The Domestic Trade Ministry has identified six main methods behind the leakage of controlled goods like petrol and diesel, including manipulation by licence holders.

PASIR MAS: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry has identified six main modus operandi behind the leakage of controlled goods like petrol and diesel.

Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali detailed the methods following a high-level inter-agency meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

The tactics include manipulation by licence holders and diversion by third parties who fail to channel supplies to intended recipients.

Authorities are also monitoring misconduct in bunkering activities and the reprocessing of petroleum products in national waters.

Falsification of purchase documents and hoarding supplies for the black market are among the other identified methods.

“Firm measures to tighten control and monitoring of distribution are crucial to curb leakages,” Armizan told reporters after visiting sites along the Rantau Panjang border.

He stated that strengthening controls involves daily monitoring through a comprehensive distribution chain database dashboard.

This system covers the entire supply chain from refineries to retail outlets and industrial users.

Armizan added that Fadillah will chair a second enforcement coordination meeting where updates will be presented.

The ministry welcomes public cooperation in channelling relevant information on such leakages.

However, the public is urged to act responsibly and refrain from spreading unverified news that could cause panic.
